Crocodiles

Crocodiles are the majestic king of the Nile, ruler of the saltwater and emperor of the Kalahari shallow rivers. A  study in resilience, they appear more than 65 million years ago and have outlived the dinosaur. The largest reptile in the world is also an incredibly patient animal that would lay underwater waiting for its prey to come, as they surely would. When the croc, as it is fondly called, strikes however, it is as swift as lightening and as precise as a Swiss watch. Yet it  is never in a hurry with its meal, the carcass is safely tucked under water to rot for a few days. Then the croc feast at leisure, taking its time to savour every bite.

Have you ever seen Steve Irvin’s rerun on animal planet? He makes catching a crocodile look like a child’s play. This massive predator is also fundamentally flawed, if you know and can think fast enough. As powerful as the jaw of a croc is, it has no strength unless it is opened; adhesive tape will keep it from opening and render  the flapping tail immobile. Also if the prey can find a way to poke the croc’s eye during an attack it is almost certain to escape. This is because the eyes, located on the top of the croc’s head, have a yet-to-be-explored link with the jaw. Unlike other predator that does actual hunting, the lazy croc prefers a delivered dinner.

Very good description, Bamidele! I like the first line of the second paragraph.
